Another successful project

Pila (washbasin ) and Sumidero (french drain well) in La Chusita community, San Pedro Yepocapa, Chimaltenango.

Thirty families benefited with this project.
Before the project, the women  had to go to the river to wash clothes or to fetch the water to be able to wash at home over stone slabs.

Now they have a "pila" and running water at home. The served waters are directed to the sumidero that properly filters the water thus avoiding contamination of the ground water.  The sumidero also eliminates the stagnant water thus helping to prevent the spread of disease caused by the propagation of mosquitos.

The women washed their clothes on stone slabs and water would accumulate under the wash area.

Organizing the community before the project starts is very important.  Pava`s philosophy is to involve the community and the municipality.  They contribute materials and labor. By actively participating they aquire ownership of the project which ensures its sustainability.

Digging the sumideros and working hard......

Celebrating....the project is completed!!!!
