It was with great joy and expectation that we arrived at El Tesoro on November 12th to inaugurate the first community library. The moment when we cut the ribbon and opened the door was very moving. Inside was a beautifully organized room, with shelves full of books, tables and chairs , pictures made by children decorating the walls, and lovely illustrations that capture the imagination . Around the room where all the seats that were taken out of the bus, so that they provide an excellent sitting space for readers.
As we walked around the room I observed people of all ages with books in their hands looking very attentively. As soon as Javier started reading a book, the children gathered around him. It was lovely to watch their faces.
But the moment of the day came when one of the adults thanked PAVA, and told his story. He read a book on planets. He told us about how wonderful it had been to realize that there where all those planets out there. He had seen the sun , moon and stars but never suspected the world beyond.
Later that morning the pastor asked me if we could include bible stories for children.
It is hard to convey in words how one lives these special moments. I hope that the pictures will do the work. But I will tell you that as we left I knew that we had enriched the lives of so many people in that community and I am certain that this wonderful gift will touch many lives in a very positive way.
